About the Artist

Welcome to my Life

Thank you for visiting the portfolio site for visual artist and illustrator, Xavier Domjan.

My art focuses on pausing to experience individual moments of ordinary existence. Rather than seeking out dramatic inspiration or broad effects, I invite the viewer to examine the richness that is already present in all experience.  My work began with black and white, ink on paper, line drawings of objects I encountered everyday.  It has evolved from there through the use of varied media and increasing abstraction.  However, my focus remains centered on making a space to examine each moment.

My art is inseparable from my personal context and identity.  As a long-time resident of rural Massachusetts, I am privileged to take advantage of a beautiful natural environment and slower pace of small town life.  Both of which invite reflection and familiarity.

My perspective has been shaped by a lifetime of living as openly queer and transgender.  Those experiences have spanned the gamut being terrifying, traumatic, and isolating to being exhilaratingly expansive and connected.  Living through that dramatic evolution who I grew into as an artist and human.

My daily experience is most directly impacted by what it is to be living with severe mental illness and disability.  The personal process of developing an integrated identity as a chronically ill and disabled person rather than viewing my illness as a separate and treatable condition parallels the evolution of my art.

Again, thank you for visiting my work.  Please contact me on this site for via email with any inquiries, questions, concerns, feedback etc.  I am happy to hear it all.  Also, remember to check out my blog for updates on new work and ongoing projects.
