Asymmetrical Balance

Drawings in India Ink and Acrylic Marker
Date
Week of March 21 2026
To live with what happened. To grow despite where I came
from. I must honor the parts of myself and allow them to
settle into their own dynamic and asymmetric balance. There is
me. The artist. The adult. The person I want to be in the
world and in my relationships. There is the very young,
damaged me. The child with no words and the keeper of all
the memories. There is the aggressor. The internalized
abuser. My rage and shame. I need all three of us to survive.
These pieces were created across a week. They began with the realization that diffusing crisis and living with traumatic experience requires me to maintain a balance among disparate elements of myself. Rather than enforcing a constructed unity through force of will, I must respect the roles those parts have to play and support the shifting among them.
The initial pieces in this series explore that triangular geometry directly. As the work progressed, it became about creating balanced images with multiple foci without falling back on symmetry to establish order.
