Unity or Diffusion

This drawing explores ideas of centrality and unity versus duality and periphery. We see the central unified form with depth and movement all its own. Surrounding it diffuse disconnected forms. They have complexity but cannot form into a fully realized shape. Rather they wander. They may mimic the superficial form of the center. They may follow its curves for a time. They may even attempt a brief contact with unity. But mimicry and tentative touches will not bring us into contact the beauty and depth of shared existence. To join is to enter fully. To cross that barrier is to surrender control, ego and self-centered, intellectualized forms of identity to join with the flow of something much more vast, shared and beyond the individual.
